A New FACE on the Blog – BBAW #2: Interviews

But honestly. I’m more so thankful of bloggers like Jennifer who are librarians who read these books and put them in the hands of teens. The right book at the right time is monumental…I know that for sure in my own life so I have to say I’m jealous of Jennifer because she has a super important job! 

Anywhooo..Jennifer answered some questions I sent along her way and I think you all should get to know her a bit and then go follow her blog because it is a new favorite of mine thanks to being paired up for BBAW!

1. As someone who is also an adult reading YA, what makes you so drawn to the genre? I started re-reading YA lit for a graduate class. I read Meg Cabot and Gossip Girl and fell in love with the genre. I knew that I wanted to become a Teen Librarian because of all the amazing teen books. I love the emotions – the high and the lows. I love the first experiences – the first crush, the first kiss, the first boyfriend…

2. Are there any blogs that are your “go to” blogs for recommendations that you know you can trust? I make it a priority to read a number of blogs every day to keep up on the book buzz. It’s hard to pick my favorites, but Lisa and Laura Write always make me laugh, Jess from I Read to Relax is a librarian friend, I’ve never meet fellow librarian GreenBean Teen Queen  but I love her blog, obviously The Story Siren, and my new favorite is Anna Reads. I could go on and on…but I’ll stop there.

3. What is one of your favorite things about the blogging community? Seeing all the upcoming book releases – everyone has different books on their radar. I love seeing the covers of new books coming out. As a librarian, it makes my job easier and its fun to see what’s coming next. It also makes my GoodReads TBR pile never ending.

4. What are three books, as a teen librarian, do you recommend the most to teens? Have any of the teens recommended any good books to YOU? The books I recommend vary on the ages and interests, but I have a handful of books I always gravitate towards. I get asked a lot about a middle school boy reluctant reader. I usually talk up action books: Kingdom Keepers, The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, Killer Pizza, Sure Fire, and the Recruit. If these are out, then I browse the shelves and pull out others. This is one of my favorite parts of my job – connecting teens with books they will love.  There are teens that have handed me books and told me to read them. Some of them I loved and some weren’t my style, but either way, I’ll give them a try. 

5. If you didn’t blog about books, what would be one other thing you’d consider blogging about? (I’m really excited to read your answer to this because I have a vlog ready for this week about the same topic) My work answer: a blog about connecting teen programs with teens books and displays in the library. My personal answer: crafty things – jewelry, cards, and other items.  Great Question!
