Top Ten Books I Read Because Of Bloggers

Top Ten Tuesday is brought to you by my other blog The Broke and the Bookish and the letter H….because I’m HUNGRY and could really go for a hot fudge sundae.

 I’m not going to get into a do  “bloggers sell books” debate. I don’t think it’s “our job” as a bloggers to do that but I just think it comes naturally.  However, here is a list of books I read SPECIFICALLY because of the nudges and reviews from other bloggers.

Most of my selections are YA reads because, before blogging, I typically only read adult books so a lot of these were books that really got me into reading YA in addition to the adult books and non-fiction I read.

 Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty – I had bought these for my sister based on a recommendation from a bunch of people on Goodreads. Everyone told me I should read it but I just didn’t think it was my thing. Enter Anna from Anna Reads and Jen from Makeshift Bookmark whose incessant chatter about this book and persistent “YOU NEED TO READ THIS” made me finally cave and it was A BIG WINNER for me as evidenced in my review of Sloppy Firsts.

A Need So Beautiful by Suzanne Young: I’m not well-read when it comes to paranormal YA books. I’m starting to expand my horizons and Jen from Makeshift Bookmark told me how much I need to read this book and then proceeded to send it to me. What is a girl to do? So, I read it AND LOVED IT. You can check out my review of A Need So Beautiful…it’s a good one for those who are testing the waters of the paranormal literature world.

Raw Blue by Kirsty Eager: I had never ever heard of this book until Lindsi  reviewed it and told a bunch of us bloggers about it to be part of an informal book tour. I read this solely on her recommendation and LOVED it. It was such a great book!

If I Stay by Gayle Forman: I can’t pinpoint who told me to read it but I think it was just basically the fact that it kept popping up EVERYWHERE. My review of If I Stay clearly shows how thankful I am that the YA bloggers kept pushing this one on my as I went on to read Where She Went and was just blown away by the Mia and Adam’s story.

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins: I’m going to be honest…this is one my favorite YA books but I abhor this cover. I do. This book would still be unread had it not been for bloggers — namely Steph from Steph Su Reads. She basically demanded that I buy it and read it while we were out book shopping one day. I am so very thankful for that because Stephanie Perkins is now one of my all time favorite contemporary YA authors. I love Anna and the French Kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door so hardcore and cannot WAIT for Isla and the Happily Ever After.

Please Ignore Vera Dietz by A.S. King — I would have probably not have heard of this one had it not been for Lenore and then me winning a contest on her blog. I really enjoyed this book so I’m thankful for that giveaway as I probably wouldn’t have gone out and  bought the book as it would have gotten put on the list of “Books I Need To Buy”…which is redonkulously LONG.

Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson:  I LOVED THIS BOOK! I saw it all over the blogosphere but I believe it was Melanie who really pushed it on me…because she let me borrow the book. Um…which I still have on my shelf and need to send back. EMBARRASSING….good thing Melanie loves me for my flaws which include procrastinating like no other when it comes to shipping things. 😛 If you love a good road trip, read my review and then go buy it or borrow it…but make sure you return it.

The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting: Again, I don’t know who told me to read this but I keep seeing how creepy this book was and would have probably never picked it up to be honest. I really loved this one, read Desires of the Dead (which I loved less) but am SO SO excited for The Last Echo as Desires of The Dead set it up for some interesting things.

Juliet, Naked by Nick Hornby: I cannot remember which blog I saw this on but I knew I wanted to read a Hornby novel at some point and after reading this particular review I decided this would be the one I started with.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins: I had people telling me in the Goodreads group I’m in to read this but I didn’t decide to buy it and read it until I started blogging. Pretty much EVERYONE pushed this one on me..and thank goodness they did because it became one of my favorite YA series EVERRR.
