Why I Added It To My To-Be-Read list: I’m reading it with my friend Kayla because we both are kind of in a funk and have some bad habits we want to change and some good habits we want to embrace.
What It’s About: It uses evidence-based/scientific self improvement strategies to help you build good habits and break bad ones.
The New Wilderness by Diane Cook
Published in 2020
Why I Added It To My To-Be-Read list: I read a really great review for it on Bookstagram that made me interested. At its bones it is giving me vibes about what I liked about After The Flood. Less focus on the world, more on the mother/daughter relationship.
What It’s About: Set in a world ravaged by overpopulation and climate change, a mother seeks a new life out of the City to help save her daughter’s health, in peril because of the smog and air quality of their city, and as they take an opportunity to be part of an experiment to see if humans can live in the last bit of true Wilderness and open land without destroying. As she navigates their new life as modern nomads, she grapples with the changing relationship with her daughter in their new life and the threat against it.
Dancing At The Pity Party by Tyler Feder

Why I Added It To My To-Be-Read list: Someone who follows me on Instagram DMed me and said “I really think you’d like this!” and I immediately added it to my list because we love a good personal recommendation around here.
What It’s About: It’s a graphic memoir from a woman telling her story of losing her mom and navigating grief.
Rise to the Sun by Leah Johnson

Why I Added It To My To-Be-Read list: I absolutely adored You Should See Me In A Crown by this author so I’m delighted to see a new book out this year! Plus it’s set at a music fest!!
What It’s About: “Toni is grieving the loss of her father and she’s desperate to get back to loving music. Olivia is a hopeless romantic whose heart has just taken a beating (again) — but the Farmland Music and Arts Festival is a chance to find a place where she fits. To Watch
Most of my watching lately has been rewatching. I’ve been comfort re-watching all things: The Office, Schitt’s Creek, Gilmore Girls and Friends. Those are my happy places this past year.
However I still do have a pretty darn long “to watch” list.
Miss Scarlet and the Duke
Why I Added It To My Watch Queue: I am all about historical shows and this one is giving me major Miss Fisher vibes (one of my all time favorite shows).
What It’s About: “Eliza Scarlet is determined to continue her dad’s detective business after he dies, but to be taken seriously in Victorian London, she needs a male partner. For that, she turns to a family friend: the irascible Detective Inspector William Wellington.”
The Woods
Why I Added It To My Watch Queue: I saw it scrolling Netflix and I am always looking for a good thriller-y/mystery show to watch with Will. Plus it’s based on a Harlan Coben novel.
What It’s About: “The story unfolds in two different time periods: August 1994 and September 2019. In 2019, Warsaw prosecutor Paweł Kopiński is called upon to identify the body of a murder victim who was found with newspaper clippings about him. The murder seems to be linked to the August 1994 summer camp where Paweł was a chaperone, during which two people were murdered and two others—including his sister Kamila—went missing without a trace.”
Mickey & The Bear
Why I Added It To My Watch Queue: I was perusing Netflix (the dvd portion because I still get the discs) and this popped up for me.
What It’s About: “Eighteen-year-old Mickey Peck has her hands full keeping her widowed, opiate-addicted dad afloat and running their household in Anaconda, Montana. Longing to escape to college in San Diego, she must choose between obligation and pursuing her dream.”

Why I added it to my rotation: A friend recommended it and after one episode (D For Distraction) I am DEFINITELY adding it to my rotation.
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah — New Fragility
Why I added it to my rotation: Oh my god I loved them back in college (their self titled album and Some Loud Thunder) and I saw they had a new album out. I’ve listened to a few songs off it and can’t wait to listen to more. Can’t believe I haven’t listened to them in so long.
Raising Good Humans podcast
Why I added it to my rotation: I realized I didn’t have any parenting related podcast on my queue except Janet Lansbury’s Unruffled podcast and I was wanting another one. Haven’t listened to any episodes yet but I’m intrigued by the list!

Im excited for the next Leah Johnson! I learned about Pity Party because it won an award from the Association of Jewish Libraries.

I have a feeling Leah Johnson is going to be one of my fave contemporary YA writers! And I can’t believe I hadn’t heard of Pity Party. Dead mom things are normally on my radar. It’s like the best feeling to have someone just randomly reach out to be like THIS! IS! A! YOU! BOOK!
And yay I’m glad! I had the premiere date written down in my planner for Miss Scarlet and the Duke but I’m knee deep in my second Gilmore Girls rewatch of the pandemic and I can’t seem to tear myself away even though I’ve seen these episodes a million times. Hoping to start it next!
