This week we are sharing what’s on our summer reading list! My Summer 2012 TBR (to be read) list is a variety of old & new because I’m always trying to mix it up and have a nice balance of backlisted books as well as what is upcoming! There are books I feel like I’ve NEEDED to get to for forever and upcoming releases that I cannot wait to devour on a lounge chair with a fruity adult beverage.
The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han (and the rest of the series): My sister read these years ago and told me I’d like them but I was too busy reading literary fiction then and turned my nose at teen fiction. College Jamie was such a super snob. Since I started blogging and also reading a ton more YA, I’ve seen everyone RAVE about this series. Plus I got to meet Jenny Han not but twice (the most recent at the S&S party where she was a fab moderator & had the cutest shoes on!) and I love her personality so I’m SO anxious to finally read her books! Perfect for beach reading!
Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver: I can’t comprehend why I haven’t read this yet. I bought it SO long ago and I really am in the mood to read it this summer! I loved Delirium by Lauren Oliver (still need to read Pandy!) and I hear these are two TOTALLY different kinds of books which makes me excited!
Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta: This is going to be the summer that I FINALLY read Melina Marchetta. I have this feeling I’m going to love her based on the feelings bloggers I trust have towards her books! YAY AUSSIE FICTION!
Emma by Jane Austen: I’ve never read this one and when I was moving my books into my apartment this past weekend or so, I really got the urge to read this one so I pulled it out into my Summer TBR stack. It’s not summer without Jane Austen apparently for me. I always seem to reread or read an Austen book at some point during the summer months.
For Darkness Shows The Stars by Diana Peterfreund: I’ve heard some PRETTY amazing things about this one and I am delighed that HarperTeen sent me my very own copy for review. I cannot wait to devour it as it is dystopian apparently AND I hear it is inspired by Persuasion by Jane Austen. Jane Austen fangirls holla if you are excited! Good news: it hit the bookstores on June 14th so you can add it to your Summer TBR if you are intrigued.
Once by Anna Carey: While Eve by Anna Carey and I had crazy love affair: my reading experience was one of compulsive reading & page turning followed by some reflective afterthoughts that brought up some issues for me…I am still so FRIGGIN excited to find out what happens. PLUS I think my dear friend Anna, of Anna Reads, may explode if I don’t get to it soon so we can have a conversation about it. Out in July.
The Lost Girl by Sangu Mandanna: This doesn’t come out until the very end of August but GAH I have been just staring at it on my bookshelf. I haven’t heard much about it but it was so intriguing to me. Basically the MC spends her life watching her “other” in the event that she dies. So naturally her “other” DOES die. I had SO many stinking questions just from reading the back of the book that I can’t bare to not read this summer!
Origin by Jessica Khoury: The book summary for Origin had me at the comparison to LOST. I friggin loved that tv show and I’m SO super stoked to read this soon thanks to Penguin! I can’t even tell you. And honestly, I’m pretty excited that it takes place in the Amazon because I can’t say I’ve read a book set there before in my life. Out
The Diviners by Libba Bray: AHH my wonderful friend, Anna of Anna Reads, is kindly letting me borrow this so it’s DEFINITELY on my TBR list for the summer! It seems promising — historical fiction, set in the 20’s, supernatural powers & some MYSTERY!
Burn for Burn by Jenny Han & Siobhan Vivian: Ooh looks like Jenny Han has invaded my list again! I’m ok with that..are you? Seeing the energy between besties Jenny & Siobhan at the S&S party made me DYING to read this collaboration. They are TOO CUTE together. Seriously. Plus, this book is about revenge and well sometimes revenge is fun! 😛
There are SO many other books on my potential Summer TBR but these are the ten that I’ve bumped up to the top! What are the top books on your list to read this summer?? I want to know! Because you know I’ll probably add more books to my summer list. lol

Love how you divided this! I’m so excited for you to read the Summer series, it’s the ultimate summer read and I love Jenny Han’s writing. I’m with you on it needing to finally read Melina Marchetta! I REALLY NEED TO, everyone loves her and it’s long overdue that I read one of her books.

Gah, I want to read so many of these but Jenny Han’s Summer series especially stands out because I only ever hear good things about it. PLUS, THE LOST GIRL! That cover is amazing and the concept sounds like my kind of read.

Before I Fall didn’t make it onto my list, but I think I may need to add it. I’ve been meaning to read it for a while, but I just never seem to get around to it. I keep seeing The Diviners pop up, so that might end up on my list too. I love how you divided up your list!

I am DYING to read The Diviners! I’m hoping to snag an ARC of it at ALA because I don’t think I’ll be able to wait until October haha. I hear great things about Burn For Burn and For Darkness Shows the Stars (Jane Austen + Space? If ever a promise…) too, they’re glaring at me from my shelf begging to be read haha. And I’m meeting Melina next month but have shamefully never read any of her books…which I need to change immediately!

I’m reading the Summer series right now and love it. It’s a quick read too, which is nice! One word of advice: if you don’t read all 3 in a row, DO NOT read the excerpt from book 2 at the end of book 1 (if your copy has this). It made me not want to read book two for a while, and I just started reading it now. It’s very good. Before I Fall is a favorite of mine, so excited for you to read it and hear what you think!

I just recently finished reading the Summer series by Jenny Han. I had some issues with the first book, but the last two were amazing. 🙂 I really hope you will enjoy it. Jellicoe Road is also another really good book. Can’t wait to see what you think of them all. 🙂

JELLICOE ROAD stole my heart….A lot of people mentioned how long it took them to get into the story and then, they fell in love around page 100 or so, it had me at hello 😀

I just finished Burn for Burn today, it was good but not quite what I was expecting, I definitely want to read the sequel.

It is so COOL to me how we have similar books on our summer reading lists (though I never posted mine!).
I actually just started reading The Summer I Turned Pretty – and I really, really love it so far. It’s definitely a great summer read! I read it because so many book blogger friends recommended it and I’m happy to say that it’s meeting expectations for me.
Jellicoe Road is another one we have in common, as I’m reading that next month. I’ve been curious about it from the very beginning and I can’t wait to finally sink my teeth into it.
Emma is one of the Jane Austen novels I haven’t read, along with Persuasion, and I’m definitely trying to read them this year. I’m not sure I’d necessarily read them during summer, but I can’t wait to start them because I love Miss Austen and her writing.

I’m new to your blog, and normally wouldn’t post. But I just wanted to say I do hope you get a chance to read Pandemonium. Lauren Oliver is probably one of my favorite authors right now. I really enjoyed the way things turned out in the book, even if they weren’t what I wanted going into it.
