This week’s topic: Top Ten Books On My Summer TBR
I’ve already talked about my favorite beach reads and what is going to be on my beach bag this summer but here are the 10 books that are HIGH on my list (in addition to those books linked above which would definitely make this list).
Where Things Come Back by John Corey Whaley: I’ve had this since right around the time it came out. It sounds like such a ME book and very beautiful and literary and I really want to get to this one finally!!
Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater: It’s embarrassing how long this has been on my shelf. Everyone seems to love this series and I do love Maggie’s writing so IT’S TIME.
The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri: This is another one I’ve had on my shelves for the longest time. It’s an adult book (I used to read solely adult books). I love reading books set in different countries and within different cultures so I’m excited!
Salt & Storm by Kendall Kulper: HISTORICAL FICTION + MAGIC. This was one I was SUPER excited to bring home from BEA.
The Jewel by Amy Ewing: Look at that pretty cover!! This one sounds fascinating and I’m excited to see what this world is all about!
Dissonance by Erica O’Rourke: This sounds like the most awesome ever. All these parallel lives!! VERY COOL.
Wildlife by Fiona Wood: This was another one I was SO excited to bring home from BEA. AUSSIE YA!
Exquisite Captive by Heather Demetrios: I was already excited for this but I got to see Heather on a worldbuilding panel and all the things she had to say made me EVEN MORE excited for this. JINNIS. INSPIRED BY ARABIAN NIGHTS. I should have started this the day it came in the mail really.
Glory O’Brien’s History of the Future by A.S. King: God, A.S. King is one of the brilliant writers out there! If people say YA is not literary, I will happily fork over money to give them an A.S. King novel. This one sounds fascinating — a girl who can see the past and the future and tries to save the world when the future she sees is awful.
Rooms by Lauren Oliver: Very very excited for Lauren Oliver’s first published adult novel!! And there’s ghosts.
AND OMG OBVIOUSLY ISLA AND THE HAPPILY EVER AFTER IS ON THE TIPPY TOP OF MY LIST!!

Shiver is a definite must-read. The Namesake has been on my TBR list for a while, too. I saw the movie on TV a couple summers ago and added the book on Goodreads. Then, when I had to read Interpreter of Maladies for a contemporary fiction class in school, I found that I really loved Jhumpa Lahiri’s writing. I’ll probably pick it up when I need a little break from YA. 🙂

Where Things Come Back is BEAUTIFUL! One of my favorite reads of the last couple of years, for sure! And those Summer 2014 books…I haven’t even heard of them! But now I have more to add to my list! 😉

I love how you photographed your books! I am having a “skirt phase” and I have been wearing them a lot that’s why I really liked your post, and of course your list too. I noticed one thing too, all of them have pretty covers 🙂

Thanks Ella! I’ve gotten in this habit of doing it when the TTT seasonal TBR lists come around. All of the ones I was wearing were actually dresses! I need some new skirts now that I think of it!!
And YES they do all have pretty covers! That was NOT planned. YAY PRETTY COVERS.

I’ve read The Scorpio Races and the Raven Boys. Her writing is BEAUTIFUL. Definitely recommend both!

Where Things Come Back and Shiver are both amazing books! They deserve to be read soon. I can’t believe you haven’t read them yet because they seem like such Jamie books! Also, My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick should be added to your list. This book is the perfect story to set off your summer. A favourite of mine for sure! (Oh, and I absolutely CANNOT wait until Isla comes out!!! Stephanie Perkins rocks my socks off!)

Yeah, Where Things Come Back is totally a Jamie book. It’s deep and literary and beautifully written with well-drawn characters. Like, it’s so good.
ALSO! SHIVER! I really enjoyed that one. The writing is very lovely.
Salt & Storm made my list too. It just seems like an April sort of book.

I’ve been wanting to read The Jewel strictly for the cover. It’s stunning! Rooms and History of the Future sound really intriguing. I’ll definitely have to give them a try!

Yes, SHIVER is one of my long overdues as well. I listed the trilogy in my TTT! I am hoping to read a few of those upcoming titles very soon, though they didn’t make the list (ROOMS in particular is ready to go on my ereader).

Rooms is one of the books I wanted to pick up at BEA, but unfortunately it didn’t work out. My flight was delayed and that was one of the early signings on Thursday and I missed it. I will definitely get a copy when it is released. I really enjoyed her Delirium series and Panic.

Love the pretty prints of your dresses (at least, I’m assuming they’re dresses). I’m so glad it’s summer!
Shiver is really good. Although it’s very temperature-based, so reading it in summer will be an interesting experience 😀 Salt & Storm looks SO GOOD, I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hope they’ll accept my ARC request.

I loved the first two books in the Shiver trilogy, but the last one is very disappointing! She leaves it at SUCH an open ending and that’s not something I’m happy I spent my money on :/

Shiver will be a fun book to read in the summer. I really like reading books set during winter during the summer. Or vice versa. It’s fun.

I adore your cover of Where Things Come Back! Shiver has also been on my shelves for years, it’s shameful, actually. But I recently read The Raven Boys & adored it, so I want to pick Shiver up soon.
Jhumpa Lahiri is an author that I’ve been meaning to check out for ages, and I will do it once I manage to get my hands on the beautiful Houghton Mifflin Harcourt 2-works edition of The Namesake & Interpreter of Maladies. I’d love to know your thoughts on this book!
