If you read my “Series Suck..Or Is It Just Me” post I tackled this topic about starting series and not finishing them. I have since added more books to my list since then! Some are STILL on this list. Boo. I stink. For this list I stuck with series that have all the books out now rather than series that aren’t complete yet.
Series That Are Complete That I Haven’t Yet Finished!
1. The Jessica Darling series by Megan McCafferty: WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?? I LOVE this series (seriously — fave series status already at book 2) but when I finished Sloppy Firsts & Second Helpings I found out that SOMEHOW I owned all books but book #3. Since then I’ve just not gotten around to buying the next book! I loaned book 1 & 2 to my little sister and she texted me her LOVE for the series and reminded me I need to finish this series!!
2. The Summer series by Jenny Han: I just reviewed The Summer I Turned Pretty yesterday and I am really happy I finally got around to this series! Now I’ve just got to finish it sooner rather than later…because I am the worst at starting and not finishing them!
3. Nightshade series by Andrea Cremer: I finally read Nightshade this year and I enjoyed it — mostly because of the interesting world building — not so much about the romance unlike everyone else. BUT I still want to continue on with this series because it was interesting. I feel like I haven’t just because paranormal is never what I pick up first when I look at all my books! PLUS I’m excited to read the prequel — RIFT!!
4. The Stork series by Wendy Delsol: In my Reconsider or Release feature I mentioned that I just couldn’t finish this on audio even though I was ALMOST done with it. I really thought I would like this based on other friend’s recommendations but sadly I didn’t and I just doubt I am going to ever finish it despite the fact I am kind of interested in what happened in the other two books.
5. The Shade series by Jeri Smith-Ready: I LOVE this series after Jen of Makeshift Bookmark raved about it and sent it to me so that I could FINALLY experience it for myself! You all know that I’m really picky with my paranormal and I LOVED Shade!! I just need to get on it and finish this one!
6. The Flappers series by Jillian Larkin: I really enjoyed Vixen and Ingenue! Totally satiated my historical fiction fix plus it’s set in the 1920’s and has no lack of flappers, gangsters, guns and romance! I have the final book, Diva, sitting on my shelf and I just need to be in the mood for some historical fiction and then I’ll complete this series!
7. Kingdom of Xia series by Cindy Pon: I think there are only really two books to this series but I really enjoyed Silver Phoenix as someone who doesn’t read a ton of fantasy!
8. The Giver series by Lois Lowry: Ok, as a young reader I reread this book AT LEAST 10 times. No exaggeration there. And then until I started blogging in June 2010 I had NO IDEA that this was a series. I just didn’t know. I didn’t have Goodreads back then to tell me this valuable information or the google machine. I just DIDN’T KNOW. I’m unsure of whether or not I’m going to finish it but DAMN I loved The Giver.
9. Percy Jackson & The Olympians series by Rick Riordan: I think this series is really great. I finished the first two books but is it weird that I just don’t really care to finish it? It’s middle grade and I don’t really do a lot of MG personally. I think I have read enough to recommend it to younger readers but I just don’t want to finish it. I actually made a blogger friend (Alexa from Alexa Loves Books) just tell me everything that happens in the rest of the books because I don’t plan on picking it back up.
10. The Millennium series by Stieg Larssen: I enjoyed The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It was thrilling but I don’t know..it’s been like 4 years since I read it so I don’t know if I really care to finish it anymore. Should I?? Is it worth it??
This doesn’t even count all the series that AREN’T finished yet that I still need to finish a book two or something! WAY.TOO.MANY.SERIES. Have you read any of these series in full??

I haven’t read any of these. *hides* haha My library doesn’t have most of them & I never started Nightshade just because I was told that one of the main guys is named Ren & it just seemed really weird. lol

I read the first two books in The Giver series and I thought that was it. Then, I saw Son on Goodreads or Amazon and was like wait there’s another book? Then I read about it and realized wow there’s another book. I now have Son preordered and for some very unknown reason I didn’t ordered The Messenger…yeah I need to get on it.
I liked the Percy Jackson series (I’m not crazy about MG either) but I LOVE the Heros of Olympics series. The characters are older and I really love it. Maybe you should try it. You don’t have to have read all the Percy Jackson books to follow it.

None of the other books in The Giver series are as good as The Giver, but they are still worth reading. They’re also pretty short. I read all of book #3 on a Sunday afternoon. The last book comes out next month (almost 20 years after the first book!). I also really liked The Millennium series. It was just so different form anything I normally read. I listened to the last two books on audiobook. They were really good and spooky!

I don’t know what it is with some series.. I really love the first book, but I still wait a long time before I ever read the second one. And sometimes, I just fly through a series without reading anything else. I’m not sure why that is. You have some great books on your list. I want to read number 2, 3, 4 and 5 one day in my life :p

I totally didn’t realize The Giver was a series until recently either! AND I just reread it last week for a class, so I feel as if I really need to finish the series now. Plus (I’m sure you know) the final book in the series is coming out next month!

I loved Girl With the Dragon tattoo, but I lost interest in the second. Not sure I’ll finish. Still battling my way through the Percy Jackson series as well, but I’m up against all the tweens at the library. lol. The Giver was great, but I thought the second in the series was a little lackluster. Great list! I’ve been meaning to read stork!

Okay, I’m a little bummed you aren’t going to finish Percy Jackson, but since Alexa told you what happens, I think I’m okay with it. I got through the first 2 books of the Jessica Darling series, but haven’t made it past book 3. Really want to finish it, but just haven’t yet. Hopefully I’ll make it through them soon!

The Shade series was awesome, definitely something that needs to be finished! I haven’t read any of the other series that you mentioned, but I do want to read the Nightshade one at some point, it looks good!

The Giver, though, I really don’t think I want to read the sequels for, because she didn’t originally intend to write them, and I just don’t feel like they’re necessary.

I haven’t started any of these books series yet. I want to start The Giver soon because Lois Lowry is coming to my library next month. I hope I can get to it. I doubt I’ll get through the whole trilogy, though.

So I totally didn’t know until earlier today that The Giver was even a part of a series. Thanks interwebs! Actually, other than The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, which I never finished (yikes!), Percy Jackson is the only other book on your list that I’ve read. I think after I saw the crappy movie-version of Percy Jackson, it kind of put me off the whole book series. I have other priorities ATM.

At last, I’m not alone! Seriously, who ever knew that The Giver was part of a series?! I remember loving it madly when I was forced to read it in grade school, and I vaguely recall that it ends rather abruptly. Maybe I’ll give it another go. Now that was a fun experience, trying to recount the details of the Percy Jackson series for you! But I hope I did it justice. Unfortunately, my memory is really poor when it comes to books sometimes, and in this case, even more so because I really love Riordan’s current series, The Heroes of Olympus!
I’m planning on finishing the Summer series, which I’m really excited about! And I really need to start the Jessica Darling series and the Shade series, since so many bloggers have recommended them to me!

I’ve heard it’s worth reading the entire Jenny Han trilogy. You should definitely pick up the rest of the Nightshade trilogy–I actually preferred Wolfsbane to Bloodrose. I for one don’t plan on reading the books that follow The Giver. I want to read the sequels to Vixen and The Lightning Thief. I’ll get to it all one of these days.

I also haven’t read the sequel to The Giver. I’ve had Vixen on my shelf for ages but I’ve yet to delve into it — like you, I have to be in the mood for historical fiction. I find that sometimes when I feel my life is lacking something or that I’m a little more stuck in a rut than usual, I’ll pick up historical fiction to satisfy my need for happiness. I haven’t felt like this in a really long time, which explains why I haven’t read Vixen yet. Strange, I know. But totally true.

So many people seem to have posted about The Giver! I’ve also read it a crazy amount of times. It’s just something I can’t imagine continuing because I like my current understanding and memories of the book. I also really need to start the Jessica Darling series!

I absolutely loved The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but I must admit I was so so disappointed in the 2nd and 3rd books. They were books I really wished I had skipped. I may be in the minority on this opinion. Thanks for a great list!

I’m with you on the Nightshade series! I read the first one, and liked it enough, but just haven’t found the time (or the motivation?) to keep reading just yet. And I always forget that The Giver is just the first book of a series, since it seems like such a fantastic stand-alone. I suppose that’s because it’s from the era where a book could stand on its own, but still be part of a series, without the dreaded cliffhanger ending =P

I’m with you on the Percy Jackson series. I was a 7th grade teacher, so I am all about the middle level books, but I never cared to keep going. Gathering Blue, the second book in Lowry’s series was a good read. I had only read that one, not knowing it was part of a series. I don’t think it matters if you have read them…I certainly didn’t feel I was missing anything having read that but not The Giver. And the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series…I loved LOVED that book. It took a while, but I finally read #2. That was very good as well, though not as good as the first. I just decided this week to tackle the last one. It picks up right where the last one left off, and even though it’s been months, I could go right back into it. I just took so long to pick them up because they are such long and involved books. They’re not like a young adult book that you can breeze through in a few days and not have to think a whole lot about it. These take effort, but they’re worth it. I just needed to take time to make the effort!

The Summer I Turned Pretty’s series is a great one. I really loved the third book, for me it was absolutely the best of the three books. (It took me a little while to get into the first book, actually.)

The Giver books are amazing. They are companion books but they come full circle. They’re quick reads and they’re discussable. I recommend finishing them!
As far as the Millennium books go, I STRUGGLED through the first book because of all of the financial jargon, but I did like it a lot. The second book was MUCH easier to read and I flew through it. I will probably not read the third book because I have a HUGE WEIRDO FEAR of finishing a series (unless it is Chaos Walking by Patrick Ness or Iron Fey by Julie Kagawa) and plus the series is forever unfinished since the author died mid-series.
I read books one and two in the Jessica Darling series fairly recently. But I have to breathe for a while before I go any further because Jessica SCARES ME. I’ve heard so many great things about her and how the series ends up but seriously that girl gives me the YELLS sometimes! But Marcus swoon swoon swoon. I know, I know, I know. I need to just go for it. I will eventually.
