And yes–people shouldn't judge other people's book selection! I get flack for reading YA, and I'm technically still in the target demographic! Sheesh!
You pretty much mentioned all my pet peeves. Dang. Oh! I suppose another one is lack of space to put books. Like, why can't we all have Belle's library? C'mon!

You are great! Thank you for vocalizing my pent up book anger (besides the author spam, because I don't get those). I worked at Borders and I HATED the stickers! There was no point! I would seriously spend hours switching 20% stickers to 30% stickers. again, no point. I bet they have a lot of sticker debt they need to pay off now that they're going out of business.
I get embarrassed by girly lit covers. you're not alone!

I once read an author who adored using the phrase "thus fortified" after his characters drank or ate. He also reminded the readers about a given character's trademark characteristics EVERY other chapter. It bothered me at first, but then I found it more amusing than anything else.
By the way, the vlog was a fun surprise — it's nice to have a face and voice in mind while reading posts!

Um hi, cutest ever. How is it that you're sleeping and you still look work-ready? WTF. Anyway, I loved this. Friggin' insta-love. And I hate it so much when people make fun of what I'm reading or ask "why do you read kid books?" I want to ask them why they're so obese and cramming a big mac into their mouths, but that's considered rude. It's the same damn principle. I love the idea of TTT vlogs! DO MORE!

Great list! I'm not opposed the movie edition of books, but I personally wouldn't buy them. I also don't mind stickers on books–as long as they're easy to peel off, like the B&N ones. But some of them are impossible, which I hate.
Seriously though, I can't believe an author actually told you his book is for intellectuals! What a conceited thing to say. I think that attitude pretty much guarantees that he's not as smart as he thinks.

I also can't stand the movie-book cover thing. I understand that it's done to make the book stand out to people who maybe watch movies before they read the books, to get more people to buy the book, to make more money. I get that. But it's annoying.

My biggest pet peeve is the spelling/grammatical issue. I really think books aren't being edited line-by-line anymore. It seems like there are almost no (and most times never) spelling/grammatical errors in the old books I read, but I find them all the time in newer books. Are authors not using editors anymore, or are editors using a quicker process now that "saves" them from having to actually read the book, page by page and line by line? Because I know from experience writing college papers and such that an author becomes so familiar with their work that they sometimes aren't going to catch errors that a second or third reader will catch.
Whatever the case, I'm a very critical reader and it annoys me to no end when I'm reading a book and come across a bunch of (or even a few) spelling/grammatical errors. They tend to be pretty obvious errors, too, which makes it even worse.
P.S. Love the vlog style for this one. 🙂

Love the vlog! I get so, so annoyed by book-snobbery and people interupting me while I'm reading as well! While I'm not busy-busy, it doesn't mean I'm not doing anything.

You crack me up! I'm definitely a bit annoyed when I get interrupted when reading, more often by my hubby because I've come to expect it with my kiddos. I rarely get time to read quietly (which is why I usually stay up late to do so) and so when i get interrupted I rage a bit. hehe Also, definitely not a fan of movie-tie in cover changes…just dumb! Great choices!

Spamming authors is a really good one. It's so annoying, and I get that a lot on Goodreads. I just hate peeps that randomly jump in places and self-promote. Not cool.

This was awesome! I'm with you on number 2 (how many times will Bella say she's "irrevocably in love" and compare Edward to Adonis? Ugh! And I'm tired of reading books about girls who are too dumb to function and unable to function without boyfriends. What is this teaching young women?
Also…number 11. Why do people think this is okay? I don't want to talk now; if I wanted to talk, I wouldn't be reading!

I found two of your 12 peeves that I completely agree on, but which were not on my pet peeve list:
1. Girly book covers – I just hate them! I do not mind reading what is considered chick-lit, but that does not mean that it has to be accompanied by an analogous cover. Something a little more muted would suit the book just fine.
2. Judging what other people read – It is not right to do so, in any case. Every person has a certain type of book they prefer to read and they shouldn't be judged for that preference. I live in Greece and I absolutely hate reading Greek books. I don't mean translations of foreign books (which I don't read because they are far too expensive – nearly 10 euros more expensive than the original book), but books written by Greek authors. Whether they are dwelling on a YA topic, a coming-of-age topic, or some different story, I find their style of writing to be a little off the top. Stinted and cliche'd (if that is how you spell it), plus they tend to pull things out for too long, just to get to a certain number of pages. I have only found a handful of Greek books that I really did enjoy. I get quite a few comments from my friends about that (especially my boyfriend), who just think I am a book snob who doesn't read Greek books. Which I'm not, really!
Sorry for the rant! I loved how you made it a v-log though! It does make it a little more personal! The voice behind the opinion! 🙂

Stickers are a no-no on books. They ruin the pretty covers!

Totally agree with #8 and #10! Oh and #11! #10 though – omg, yes! I'm a Pride and Prejudice continuation junkie and I've had a number of really snarkie comments about why I read them. It really does my head in! I read them as a guilty pleasure and as something light to perk my mood up. Do not judge!

Goo Gone is awesome for sticker removal – you still have to peel some of the sticker off first, but then you spray it on and rub the sticky all off. I'm too tired to respond to the rest but I loved your top-ten-rant! Goodnight!

This was a great post and it was perfect in Vlog format. The visual of a sticker on a book doesn't bother me, but I tend to pick at it while I'm reading and I get distracted from my reading!

I love it!! I usually don't watch entire vlogs, but yours just engaged me! Well said! One of my biggest pet peeves is when an amazing book is made into a movie. Yes, I will watch it and maybe even kind of like it.. But it's never like the book was in my head, and it all jumbles together … and it may or may not jumble so much it makes me HATE the book/series/whatever all together. I am so scared this will happen with TMI which has been my favorite series since before all the hype now…

Loved your post and some of the things that annoy you definitely annoy me as well
-The insta-love thing-totally hate it, I like characters becoming friends first and then their romance developing over time, but if the girl just sees the guy and is in love with him and completely obsesses over him for the whole book it really peeves me off.
-Movie tie-in covers-I prefer to get the original book with the original cover and it is so annoying when the only one available is the movie tie in, and also when they bring out new editions because one of the books has just been made into a movie so that they can put “Now A Major Movie” sticker on them, and then you have to buy the new edition of the book, but you have the rest of the series in the old edition and the new one just doesn’t match-that really annoys me!
I completely agree on the making fun of people’s choice in books thing, it really pisses me off when people think they are better than me because they read more “literary” books, and they judge me for reading YA.
I agree on the stickers too, sometimes they are really hard to get off and my books are left with horrible marks because I couldn’t pull the sticker off all in one go.
Also the people interrupting you when you read, I really hate that too, but I have another one that I find even more annoying which is people standing over your shoulder whilst you read-that is my biggest pet peeve when it comes to books.
