This week’s topic: Ten (Non-Main) Characters Who Deserve Their Own Book
Eleanor from Illusions of Fate by Kierstan White: There was SO much more to Eleanor than you realized at first and I just really WANT to know more. She fascinated me.
Amos from Rites of Passage by Joy Hensley: So we don’t ever get to “meet” Amos technically but her memories of him made him so alive to me and I just think his story was SO interesting and I just want to really know everything.
Reagan from Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell: I LOVED Cath’s roommate and there was so much about her I wanted to know! She was just a character who you know who had layers that were just waiting to be unraveled. She seemed like such a tough girl but she was really kind to Cath.
Rashmi from Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins: I was always fascinated most by Rashmi out of all the people in Anna’s group.
Aedion from Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas: There were so many great NEW characters introduced in this book but I REALLY want an Aedion book — maybe a prequel to what he’s been up to before we meet him.
Tara Finke from Saving Francesca/The Piper’s Son by Melina Marchetta: She was always interesting to me in Saving Francesca but I want to know all about what she was doing in the gap between these two books.
Collette from Sex & Violence by Carrie Mesrobian: I always wanted to know what happened to Collette. We don’t get to know her all that well but even after I finished I wanted to know how everything affected her.
Tiny Cooper from Will Grayson, Will Grayson by David Levithan and John Green: What a compelling character! He just jumped off the page for me! And lucky enough there is going to be a play starring Tiny Cooper. SO THAT IS AWESOME. I kind of get my wish?
Brad from Even In Paradise by Chelsey Philpot: We barely see much of him and it’s not like he was this crazy exciting side character but I don’t know…there was just something about him that I wanted to know more of. He was this flirty guy and I (think) the oldest if I’m not mistaken. He was successful in his career. I just would love an NA (I forget how old he is) or adult romance about him. He just stuck with me for some reason and I just wanted to know more about him and how he handled all the tragedy.
Margot from To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han: So we don’t really SEE Margot much but she’s the eldest sister and her presence is felt so much in the book even as she goes half way across the world for college. I really would love a book about her adventure leaving her family and going to school away from them and away from being able to take care of them.
So tell me…who are some compelling non-main characters who you think should totally get their own book?? Do you agree with any of mine??

Wow, Anna and Fangirl are really popular for this week’s topic! I’d really love a companion novel for Meredith from Anna/Isla. She’s the one person in that group who was never paired up with anyone, she needs her own story! And from Fangirl I don’t know if they count as actual characters, but I’d like a full version of Cath’s Simon Snow fan fiction.

I didn’t even bother (technically) putting any characters from the Throne of Glass series on my list because picking one would be too hard! Chaol, Manon, Rowan, Aedion–I can’t pick one! And ooh, a book about Reagan would be so snarky and fun.

Oooooo I didn’t even think of Aedion but that would be interesting to see. I put Nehemia for the same reason. Actually thinking about it there’s quite a few characters from that series I’d like a background on haha.

It’s early so I’m blanking on names… But I would LOVE a book about Anna’s roommate from Anna and the French Kiss! And also the Italian that Pippa meets in Wish You Were Italian who brings her to the island. I think a book of her visiting the US would be fab!
I hadn’t thought about a book from Margot’s perspective but that would be awesome 🙂

Great list. I really love Reagan from Fangirl. I think she was very real and complicated and interesting. In fact, I don’t think she was explored enough and for her to have another book would be amazing!! 🙂

hi jamie! i feel terrible admitting that i’ve only read anna and the french kiss out of all the books on your list!! I WANT THEM ALL =D even though rashmi wasn’t my fav, i don’t mind doing anything to get my hands on another stephanie perkins contemporary (i hear her next book is a thriller and as much as i’m excited for it, i’m secretly a coward who can’t handle), i hope she sees this post. =D

Yes to Eleanor!! I loved how many secret layers there were to her character and I really want to know just how much she’s capable of.
And Reagan!! I would read her book just for the laughs. She’s hysterical.
And YES TIMES A MILLION to Aedion! His storyline is fascinating!!

YES to Margot! I’d love to see how she sees her family and her own adventures. I really liked her as a character even though she wasn’t really present in the book.

I was at an author even last evening with David Levithan, and he talked about the Tiny Cooper musical story. We even got to pick up a small sneak peek booklet. Publication date is listed as 3/17/15. He is also writing a companion novel to One Day told from the perspective of the other main character (sorry, I haven’t read this one so didn’t recognize the name).

Ohh great choices! I completely forgot about Tara – I’d love a book from that passionate girl’s perspective. (Plus more Tom, duh). I’d also gladly read a Reagan book, and Eleanor yes please. That girl was such a surprise.

I only just started reading Heir of Fire myself, but I can already completely agree on more Aedion. His story and journey seems to be just as harsh and trying as Celaena’s. I’m already intrigued by him, even though he’s a little hard to truly like, just at the moment. Reagan would also be another good one! Great list. 🙂

I also thought Rashmi was a compelling character too.. I’d love to see more of her thought process. There’s something smooth about her, almost a coldness, that I felt wasn’t really the case. Does that make sense? :s

I don’t know about Tiny Cooper… As much as I loved Will Grayson, Will Grayson (and one of my students talked with me about reading it soon today), I think the story is already more about Tiny than it is about the WGs. Totally agree with Reagan. I was so upset when Fangirl ended – the perils of reading an ebook…

Yes! Aedion! I adore him and Rowan. As much as I love Choal, those two were the best in HoF. Lol, Tiny Cooper was a pretty cool character as well. Great choices!

I would definitely love to read more about Tara Finke especially after reading “The Piper’s Son.” Tiny Cooper was the star of Will Grayson, Will Grayson in my opinion so I think a book about him would be over the top in the best possible way. The only person on this list who I don’t really care for is Margot from To All the Boys because she seemed so uptight in that book so I didn’t like her character.

I’m dying to get a whole book on Kenji from the SHATTER ME series! I totally agree with Margot from TATBILB because I really didn’t like that book, but I liked Margot’s character. I agree the Reagan from FANGIRL, too! She was such an awesome character!

A book about Rashmi is something I never knew I needed but now desperately want!! Also, even though I didn’t love To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, I think seeing it from Margot’s perspective would be really interesting.

Okay, first, I just want to say I’m so excited to read Rites of Passage and Even In Paradise. And Fangirl and Will Grayson, Will Grayson, but mostly those first two. Anyway, I completely agree about Margot. For some strange reason, I didn’t add her to my own list though I definitely remember how I thought Margot needed her own book. Rashmi made my list! I remember reading about what she was going through towards the end and I was just so frustrated how the only thing talked about was her relationship with Josh. Gah.

OMG I would definitely read a book about Reagan. She is such a diverse character and she only appears once in a while. Her life beyond those few pages just fascinates me.

I totally agree with Reagan from Fangirl. I think it would be super interesting to dive into her past with Levi and how she dealt with living in a small town and transitioning to college.
