This week’s topic: Top Ten 2016 Releases I’m Excited For The First Half of 2016
There are soooo many books I’m excited for in 2016 so I cheated!!! I already listed the 2016 debut novels I’m excited for so this will be for non-debuts! I went back and looked at my 2015 most anticipated books and I ended up reading 13/18 ones I picked so YAY ME.
So here are the January – June 2016 YA releases I am most excited about!! And oh my gosh every year I post this list I realize instantly like 5 books I left out so TOTALLY NOT COMPREHENSIVE. SO EXCITED ABOUT SO MANY.
1. The Winner’s Kiss: I have been waiting NOT SO PATIENTLY for the final book in this trilogy. Marie is going to deliver…THIS I KNOW. If you haven’t read The Winner’s Curse….you have time to catch up!!!
2. The Unexpected Everything: Morgan Matson is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITES. All her books are amazing and I’m just dying to read this one! If you love contemporary YA…this needs to be on your radar along with all her other books!
3. A Court of Mist and Fury: OMG NEED BOOK 2. I loved A Court of Thorns and Roses and cannot wait to see what happens!
4. Summer Skin: I don’t think this has a US release date or anything like that but this Aussie YA is one of my most anticipated for real!!! I loved Kirsty Eager’s Raw Blue and NEED this so badly!!
5. My Lady Jane: I love this trio of ladies co-writing this book together and the “for fans of Princess Bride” really got me! It looks fun!!
6. Outrun the Moon: I really loved Stacey Lee’s debut! I’m excited for another YA historical fiction book from her — and this one is set against the backdrop of a historic earthquake!
7. You Know Me Well: NEW DAVID LEVITHAN WITH NINA LACOUR I AM DYING.
8. Traitor Angels: Yas more historical fiction from Anne Blankman! The MC is the daughter of John Milton (author of Paradise Lost!). Sounds sooo good.
The Last Boy and Girl in the World: I feel like Siobhan Vivian is one of those YA authors that is super underrated and I don’t understand why! She’s so excellent! Needless to say I’m excited for her upcoming book about a girl whose whole town is underwater after a storm and everyone is ordered to pack up and leave and it chronicles that last time together in her hometown and with her friends.
Once Was A Time: NEW LEILA SALES YAS. It’s middle grade (I don’t often read MG) but I will follow Leila wherever! Plus time travel!!
This is Where the World Ends: Amy Zhang’s debut Falling Into Place is one of the most haunting books I’ve ever read and beautiful prose to boot. I have been WAITING for her sophomore novel. It sounds so intense!
Riders: LOVED Veronica Rossi’s Under the Never Sky series (one of my all time fave series) and I’m super excited to read her newest series!
The Shadow Queen: I’ve never read CJ Redwine’s books before despite owning them but I’m super excited about this fantasy and retelling of Snow White!!
Salt To The Sea: Ruta Sepetys…she is amazing and is writing some of the best historical fiction in YA! I’ve loved both her books and have been eagerly anticipating a new one from her — and it’s set in WWII and apparently, according to the summary “shines a light on one of the war’s most devastating—yet unknown—tragedies.”
The Forbidden Orchid: Ahh Sharon’s debut A Mad Wicked Folly was a book I really loved last year and I am so excited for this one!
The Mirror King: I’ve been dying for this sequel ever since I read Orphan Queen. It showed up in the mail recently and I am DEFINITELY reading it soon!
This Savage Song: True confession: I’ve never read a Victoria Schwab book. I own them. I guess I’m just intimidated because they are crazy beloved. They all sound amazing to me and this one is no exception. maybe I’ll start with this one since I’ve heard less about it and then go back!
Wild Swans: This sounds like such an amazing contemporary YA. Seems like it will have strong family relationships and exploration in it!
The Imposter Queen: Sounds like an interesting fantasy and I’ve heard some good buzz about it from people who have read but I honestly don’t know that much about it!
The Glittering Court: “A dazzling new fantasy series set in a mix of Elizabethan and frontier worlds that’s dripping with romance” WHY YES I WANT THIS.
I will be talking about Truthwitch, When We Collided and Passenger soon in more detail but OMG LOVED THEM ALL! They totally were most anticipated 2016 like you have no idea and would have made this list had I not read them!

Ok, so I’m not a HUGE fan of contemporary YA, but I’m willing to give it a shot. Which Morgan Matson novel should I start with? I hear great things about her, but I’m not sure which is the standout novel of hers. What would you recommend?

Oh man! You gotta read Victoria Schwab! I feel like you’d appreciate her writing! Vicious is my favorite of hers. I’m looking forwad to This Savage Song.
So excited to see Wild Swans on your list! Jessica Spotswood’s Cahill Witch trilogy is one of my all time favorites and I’ve been not-so-patiently waiting for more by her. Neeeeeeeed it. She was pitching the main guy in it to me a few people on Twitter the other day and I got so excited to meet him!
