The 2021 List Is Here!
I always love doing the book to movie adaption lists as I have for the past few years (2018’s list was awesome!!) and I couldn’t wait to put together this list of book to movie adaptations in 2019! I am SO excited about many of the books being made into movies in 2019 that I’ve already read and I found so many new books to read before they come out as movies this year.
Let me know in the comments which upcoming 2019 book to movie adaptations you are excited about!
THIS LIST WILL BE UPDATED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR WITH THE MOST UPDATED INFO AS SOMETIMES RELEASES CHANGE AND MOVE UP OR BACK. I’ve even had movies not even slated for that year to get moved up so much they weren’t even on my radar.

This book actually JUST came out this month and I’m so intrigued just based on the fact it already has a movie! Haven’t heard much about the book itself but planning to snag it from the library.
In theaters March 2019. “A pair of teenagers with life-threatening illnesses meet in a hospital and fall in love. “
Another one on those books being made into movies in 2019 that I’m embarrassed I still haven’t read yet I’ve owned for years. I think I keep “saving” it to read for a time when I really need it because I think I’m going to LOVE it but then I don’t ever end up reading it. Weird bookworm quirk, huh?
In theaters March 2019. “After her anxiety-ridden mother disappears, 15-year-old Bee does everything she can to track her down, discovering her troubled past in the process. “
I haven’t read this book yet but I’ve read this author’s debut! I’ve heard GLOWING things about this one so I’m excited!
In theaters May 2019. “College-bound romantic Daniel Bae and Jamaica-born pragmatist Natasha Kingsley meet—and fall for each other—over one magical day amidst the fervor and flurry of New York City. Sparks immediately fly between these two strangers, who might never have met had fate not given them a little push. But will fate be enough to take these teens from star-crossed to lucky in love? With just hours left on the clock in what looks to be her last day in the U.S., Natasha is fighting against her family’s deportation as fiercely as she’s fighting her budding feelings for Daniel, who is working just as hard to convince her they are destined to be together.”
I haven’t read this book yet but I’ve read this author’s debut! I’ve heard GLOWING things about this one so I’m excited!
In theaters October 2019. “A boy in New York is taken in by a wealthy Upper East Side family after his mother is killed in a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. “
This isn’t a comic book series I’ve gotten into yet but I plan to eventually. David Harbour being in this makes me want to get to it pronto!
In theaters April 2019. “Based on the graphic novels by Mike Mignola, Hellboy, caught between the worlds of the supernatural and human, battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge.”
I got into comics the past few years but I’ve never heard of this one! It sounds TOTALLY awesome though and the cast of the movie sounds GREAAAT.
In Theaters October 2019. “The wives of New York gangsters in Hell’s Kitchen in the 1970s continue to operate their husbands’ rackets after they’re locked up in prison”
Ever since Marley & Me I get scared with dog books/movies, I’m not going to lie OKAY.
In theaters January 2019. “A dog travels 400 miles in search of her owner.”
I have wanted to read this ever since it came out and I don’t know why I haven’t!! It’s a series — I think 3 books are in it!
On tv January 2019. “When a botched U.S. government experiment turns a group of death row inmates into highly infectious vampires, an orphan girl might be the only person able to stop the ensuing crisis. “
Joe Hill, Stephen King’s son, has been on my radar since his debut but yet again…one I haven’t gotten to!
On TV April 2019. “A young Victoria “Vic” McQueen discovers she has the power to unlock portals that help her find lost objects. As she delves further into this hidden universe, she encounters many other “inscape travelers” – some benevolent, and some who have been corrupted by their power. When Vic encounters Charlie Manx, an immortal who stays that way by feeding off of the souls of children, she makes a sworn enemy of Manx. “
I’ve never heard of this comic series before but it sounds SO like something I would like and I HAVE to pick it up.
On tv January 2019. “A coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of late 1980s counterculture, which follows a disillusioned teen recruited into a storied high school for assassins. .”
The Impossible by Joyce Smith

Not the genre I would read at all but I know some would totally love this! The movie has Chrissy Metz in it so I will wait and see how people say it is!
In Theaters April 2019. “During World War II, an international convoy of 37 Allied ships, led by Commander Ernest Krause, cross the treacherous North Atlantic while being hotly pursued by wolf packs of German U-boats “
I don’t know much about this one except that some people really love it and some people say it’s an abusive romance. I haven’t read it but go into it with that knowledge. Also it’s apparently Harry Styles fanfiction?? IDK I AM JUST REPORTING WHAT I KNOW.
In Theaters April 2019. “A young girl falls for a guy with a dark secret and the two embark on a rocky relationship. “

A remake of Pet Semetary! I loved this movie as a kid (was sooo into horror) so I’m thrilled for a remake (hopefully it’s good!).
In Theaters April 2019. “Louis Creed, his wife Rachel and their two children Gage and Ellie move to a rural home where they are welcomed and enlightened about the eerie ‘Pet Sematary’ located near their home. After the tragedy of their cat being killed by a truck, Louis resorts to burying it in the mysterious pet cemetery, which is definitely not as it seems, as it proves to the Creeds that sometimes, dead is better.”
ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVES. Riley’s middle name is Josephine after Jo March! Can’t wait for this and I’m so due for a reread of my childhood fave.
In Theaters December 2019. “Four sisters come of age in America in the aftermath of the Civil War”
This was my FAVORITE as a kid and I am SO, SO THRILLED.
In Theaters November 2019. “A group of young teens attempt to solve a mystery that involves a series of spectacularly horrific deaths in their small hometown”
I’ve seen this book around a bit and reviews have me interested! It seems like some people read it in school but I never
Premiering at Sundance January 2019 – “Right from the start, Bigger Thomas had been headed for jail. It could have been for assault or petty larceny; by chance, it was for murder and rape. Native Son tells the story of this young black man caught in a downward spiral after he kills a young white woman in a brief moment of panic.
Another thriller on the book to movie adaptation list for 2019!
In Theaters November 2019. “Career con artist Roy Courtnay can hardly believe his luck when he meets well-to-do widow Betty McLeish online. As Betty opens her home and life to him, Roy is surprised to find himself caring about her, turning what should be a cut-and-dry swindle into the most treacherous tightrope walk of his life “
I’m intrigued by this one for sure — never heard of this particular piece of history when it comes to race relations.
In Theaters April 2019. “Civil rights activist Ann Atwater faces off against C.P. Ellis, Exalted Cyclops of the Ku Klux Klan, in 1971 Durham, North Carolina over the issue of school integration.”

I joined Goodreads in September 2008, a few months after this one came out, and everyone was OBSESSED with this book but I just never got around to reading it! I’m loving that at least two of the books on this 2019 book to movie adaptation list are from a dog’s POV haha

This actually sounds pretty funny as a movie but I will personally probably skip the book!
“Three suburban moms who have long been friends decide to show up unannounced at the homes of their thirty-something layabout sons. Their goal: to swoop in and set things right. The result: a hilarious mix that will resonate with mothers who can’t turn a blind eye and their adult sons who can’t quite get it together” Post-Production, Slated For 2019
