This week’s topic: Top Ten Books On My Fall TBR List
Really really going to try hard to stick to this list!!! But being a mood reader sometimes makes that difficult.
1.City of Thieves by David Benioff: This has been on my TBR for a long time and I need to get to it. Plus I always seem to crave historical fiction in the Fall for some reason?? I don’t even know why!
2. The Rose Society by Marie Lu: I’ve been dying for this sequel because The Young Elites was SO amazing and THAT ENDING. Highly recommend
3. A Madness So Discreet by Mindy McGinnis: The vibe this book gives off just screams FALL. Historical thriller + insane asylum setting? YEAH.
4. Rules For A 50/50 Chance by Kate McGovern: It wouldn’t be a Jamie TBR if there wasn’t an emotional contemporary YA on it right??
5. These Vicious Masks by Tarun Shanker & Kelly Zekas: “Jane Austen meets X-Men in this gripping and adventure-filled paranormal romance set in Victorian London.” YEAH.
6. The Death and Life of Zebulon Finch by Daniel Kraus: This one showed up unsolicited in the mail and I’m SO GLAD IT DID because I had never heard of it and it sounds AMAZING. Planning on reading this in October because it seems like the perfect Halloween read that isn’t super scary or anything.
7. The Dead House by Dawn Kurtagich: This sounds pretty creepy! Love having a creepy read or two in the Fall!
8. More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera: I’ve been meaning to read this since the day it came out. Love Adam as a person and have heard nothing but phenomenal things!
9. The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken: Been meaning to start this fantasy series!!
10. Walk On Earth A Stranger by Rae Carson: GOLD RUSH WILD WEST SO THERE FOR THIS.
So tell me…have you read any of these? Tell me what you think my NUMBER ONE priority should be from this list??

I hope you enjoy City of Thieves! I read it years ago but I greatly enjoyed it, I loved the camraderie between the two main characters even though everything was falling apart around them and they were sent off on an absurd mission. Been meaning to re-read it, actually 🙂

Oh girl, you GOTTA read MORE HAPPY THAN NOT. Like you, I knew Adam before the book 😉 and love him a lot. I was nervous to read his book. What if I didn’t like it at all? I was so happy when I really enjoyed his book. Then I was EVEN HAPPIER when I kept thinking about it. There is a lot to discuss in MORE HAPPY THAN NOT and I hope we get to discuss it soon! 🙂

I looooved MORE HAPPY THAN NOT, and I totally read THE YOUNG ELITES and THE ROSE SOCIETY back to back this past weekend and oof, both endings… I don’t want to say too much about TRS but man, yes, that was a seriously dark ride.

DAHLIA READING FANTASY WHAAAAAT. I LOVE IT. This makes me happy what you’ve said about TRS. I thought TYE was dark but I was hoping for even MORE darkness in TRS. Does it seem like it’s just going to be a duology or do you think there will be more books?

I know, right?? I’m trying to up my fantasy game, and I’ve had a bunch of successes this year! And YES, TRS is even darker, so I suspect you are going to be VERY happy. It totally reads to me like a duology, but then I went on Goodreads to confirm and it looks like there’s a third book? Not sure how set in stone that is but I think it’s fabulous as a duology, and I’m not sure what I’d even want a third book to be about. It’s really nice to read a book 2 that doesn’t have a ragey cliffhanger ending!

The Rose Society BROKE MY HEART (in a good way, not the character destroying way) T_T I need more people to read this book so we can all cry together.
And 8, 9, and 10 on your list I’ve been reading to read for a while but haven’t gotten to them just yet. Hope I will before this year is over!

Being a mood reader is so inconvenient sometimes haha. I mean, I love the variety and all my reading whims but sometimes I don’t want to read my book club book or a library book in a timely manner. Do you think there is any reason why your habits have changed to turn you into a mood reader?

I am so excited to get my hands on a copy of Walk on Earth a Stranger! The Gold Rush with a magical twist!! I am so there!!! The Dead House sounds pretty damn creepy which should be perfect for Halloween! Great list!! 🙂

I had heard about The Dead House and was like YAS THIS WILL BE ONE OF MY HALLOWEEN READS FOR SURE. I really really love reading books that ~feel~ like a good a Fall read whether they are scary or not.

I’m looking forward to so many of these! A Madness So Discreet sounds like the most perfect Halloween read – I just read the synopsis again and I’m seriously creeped out. Rules for a 50/50 Chance sounds amazing, this was the first I’d heard of it but after reading the synopsis I have SO MANY QUESTIONS. Definitely going to be picking that one up when I’m in the mood for a possible tearjerker.

I am definitely in the mood for some gothic/creepy books this fall. A Madness So Discreet and The Dead House sound perfect for that. I’m also VERY INTO the YA western trend at the moment with Walk On Earth a Stranger and Vengeance Road.

I’m hearing a lot of great things about The Young Elites and I’m definitely hoping to get my hands on this series before the end of the year. I’ve meaning to read The Darkest Minds series for so long and I’ve still not got round to reading it yet. There are so many exciting new releases this year and I can’t wait to get my hands on More Happy Than Not and Walk on Earth a Stranger.

A MADNESS SO DISCREET. Love love love the tone Mindy captures in her writing and have been waiting for her next release!! Walk on Earth a Stranger is also on my list. I did my Fall TBR differently this time because I never even touched the books on my summer TBR so I just did Fall releases I’m excited about since I doubt I’ll actually read them in Fall. :p

Walk on Earth a Stranger was on my list too! I need to read The Darkest Minds still. I feel terrible for not reading it yet! I read City of Thieves in Russian History and really liked it! Hope you stick to your TBR! 🙂

OH MY GOD YOU HAVE AN ARC OF THE ROSE SOCIETY! *grabby hands* i literally tried everything to get an arc but didnt manage to get one…… but oh well only a few more days before it gets released heh. a walk on earth a stranger is on my tbr too! ive heard of so many good things about it so im so excited to read it. ah the darkest minds is in your pile! that is one of my faves. alexandra is amazing. i am warning you though it could be confusing at first because of the colours and their abilities.

We have a few books the same this week. I’m really looking forward to A Madness So Discreet and Walk on Earth a Stranger, and I am intrigued by The Dead House too so I might pick that up soon as well.

This looks like such a great TRB! I’m hoping to read The Dead House also because CREEPY AND SCARY AND YAY HALLOWEEN THEME. I always try to add a few of those, but I never actually read them, so we’ll see. And ahhhh The Rose Society! I can’t freaking wait to get my pre-order, and I’m debating whether or not to reread TYE beforehand. Loved it so much the first time around. I also definitely want to get to More Happy Than Not asap because I’ve been wanting to read it for the longest time and all of my friends have loved it. And ooh, so curious about These Vicious Masks! More Happy Than Not is BY FAR one of the best books I have read all year! It’s one of those books that you want to re-read as soon as you finish it! I hope you post what you thought after you read it!

I haven’t read any of these!!! So I can’t prioritize for you unfortunately! They all look awesome 🙂 I know you already have a book queue for Fall but I have one more that you must add to the list. “The Lemoncholy Life of Annie Aster” by Scott Wilbanks (http://www.scottbwilbanks.com/) is a fantastic novel that has romance, time travel, mystery, suspense and is quite simply a book that you will not be able to put down (perfect for a cozy couch session!) The story follows Annie and her unusual correspondence with a 19th century schoolmarm, Elsbeth Gundy, from Kansas. Annie lives in modern day San Francisco and finds this mysterious link in her backyard. Out of nowhere appears a mailbox with a letter from Elsbeth stating “Trespass is dealt with at the business end of a shotgun in these parts!” The two have to discover what is connecting these two very different worlds. I absolute adore the characters and the dialogue in this book. It is clever and witty and I really think it is enjoyable from start to finish. Hope you will check it out. Happy reading!!!
