So, my dear friend Betty and I have been working on something. Yes we have. It’s something that you’ve all been yelling at me for for THREE YEARS. I feel shame and guilt EVERY DAY about it. I feel like I’m missing something — like the key to the universe that everyone else seems to have.
DID YOU GUESS IT YET? DID YOU??
NO?
Here’s another hint: The responses I get when I say I’ve never read this series!
THAT’S RIGHT!!!
Over the next few months Betty and I are going to be reading the Harry Potter series together and creating a series of fun videos to share our experience with Harry Potter as adults! We feel like we missed out on an important childhood rite of passage by not reading the Harry Potter series so it’s our mission to reclaim our childhood and read Harry Potter like we were two giggling teens again. We know we don’t need to review this series but we thought it would be fun for you guys to relive it with us!
Here’s a little sneaky peek to whet your appetite:
ERMAGERDDD! Be excited for us as we embark on this magical adventure! And check out Betty’s blog!

I actually have no words. Aside from: SICK VIDEO MAKING SKILLS YOU GUYS. SO IMPRESSED.
But also: I’m CRACKING UP over here. Good luck and feel free to text/whatsapp me when shit gets real. I’m always up for getting worked up over Potter.
Morgan says
YAY!!! Everyone should read Harry Potter no matter how late to the party they are 😉 Can’t wait for the videos and to see what you think!
Wendy says

And I will be eagerly awaiting all of the video updates :). EEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Erin McLeod @ Pursuit of Good Reads says
AHHHHHH so exciting! I knew INSTANTLY that you had to be talking about HP, and I’ve only been around for a month now! I love the video concept – SUCH a smart way to broadcast your thoughts without reviewing the untouchable. Eeeeek!
Missie Kay @ The Book Fix says
That’s awesome! I think they are ageless (and so far, pretty timeless, too. I work used books, and HP has a lot more staying power than, say, Twilight).
And I didn’t read any of them till college.
Wendy says
Hahahah genious! I’m going to follow your journey guys. Good luck. I think you’ll find it to be awesome! 😀
Tyler-Rose says
First of all, I’m so impressed with the video skills! XD Secondly, YAY! I can’t believe you haven’t read them before! And I really hope you enjoy them now! Good luck girls!!
Tyler @ The Reading Pile

I’m so happy you’re finally getting on top of this. <3 You're going to absolutely adore the Harry Potter series Jamie! And I can't wait to see all the lovely updates from you two throughout August!
April @ Books And Wine says
Fricken finally, ya muggles 😉
Also, yay!
Liza (WhoRuBlog) says
This is seriously fantastic! Enjoy every second, and then I hope the two of you have a marathon movie weekend where you stay in your pjs and watch all the HP movies back to back with lots of yummy munchies!
Aaron says
You two pillow fighting AND Harry Potter?
Oh, hell…
Judith says
OH MY GOD YOU GUYS. That video is freaking brilliant. Even though I knew that you were doing this I am SO EXCITED all over again. Whoever made that video (I’m guessing the baby bettys) is a genius. I’m also dying over the Milfs Inc and pretty much the entire thing.
mzvanessa says
If it makes you feel any better I have yet to read the series OR watch the movies… and my six year old is showing an interest, so I have to get on it (but first, I have to finish GOT…..bookgirl problems haha)
Carrie from Stalking the Bookshelves says
Yay!!! Enjoy you two.
Quinn @ Quinn's Book Nook says
AWESOME! I can’t really imagine anyone not loving the series. Finishing book three is what hooked me (as a teen) on the books. Have you guys seen the movies? Have fun and I can’t wait to see what you guys think of the books.
Deanna says
GREAT video!! I am so glad you guys are tackling this…I hope you love the series. I am reading them again–this is only the second time I’ve read the entire series–and it’s such a fun experience reliving the whole thing again.
ashley says
That video is really all sorts of epic.
Natalie says
AHHHHH THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY!!!! Also, are you guys professional video editors or what?! That was fantastic! I can’t wait to hear how all of this turns out, and what you think of the books!!!! YAY!

kelly gunter says
I actually started reading Harry Potter in my 20s. My manager told me to go buy the first book on my lunch break (we worked in the mall) and even gave me the money to buy the book because she was afraid if she lent me her copy I would abscond with it. I credit her for opening me up to YA and fantasy. Now if she could just pry me open and find a good graphic novel for me to sink my teeth into.
Alexia @ Adventures in Reading says
Yay! You guys will have a unique perspective as adult virgins to the HP world. I’m always up for fangirling (is that even a real word?) over Harry Potter.
DeAnna @ Mommy's Reading Break says
Awesome idea! I love the video! FYI, @MuggleHustle on Twitter just finished reading and tweeting about the series for the first time at the age of 25. He was hilarious.
I don’t think you missed out on your childhood by not reading HP. I read it when I was 25, and I’m SO glad I did because I know that young DeAnna wouldn’t have been able to appreciate it as much as adult DeAnna did/does. Speaking of, I’m actually going to start rereading the series again in the next few days, so I’ll kind of be along with you. I’m totally jealous of you, though. There is NOTHING like reading HP for the first time!
Rachelia (Bookish Comforts) says
Haha, love the trailer/video and I can’t wait to see what you guys think of the books!
Lucybird says
ekkk! I hope you love it as much as I do!
Tara says
Girl, you know how I feel about Harry Potter. THIS IS SO EXCITING!!!
Rinn says
Yayyyy – you will not regret it!
Ashley says
Hahaha awesome!! I hope you love the series! I’m honestly not crazy about the first ~3 books because they feel SO middle grade-ish. But the later ones get more epic and young adult-feeling!
Alexa Y. says
This video is just the perfect teaser for this! I can’t wait to see you and Betty tackle the (amazing awesome wonderful) Harry Potter series. Feel free to text/tweet/email me updates at ANY time. I am ALWAYS up for chatting about HP!
Kari Bradley says
I will have to join you girls! Seriously, I have the box set and everything, but have never read the books. Will you do a certain pacing (like a book a month or something)?
Liz @ Elizziebooks says
Ahaha! Great video! Can’t wait to see how this turns out 😀 Have fun !!!
Kara @ Great Imaginations says
I love book bloggers so much. SERIOUSLY. You are MY PEOPLE. I cannot wait to follow your posts with glee! Also, Betty’s link to her blog is incorrect. FYI. Smooches and this is awesome!

LOL I am super excited for you. It’s one of those series you wish you could read for the first time all over again!
Can’t wait to see what you ladies think!
Rosie says
LOVED the video! Too funny! I’m also a Harry Potter Virgin. I started the first one, but stopped after 50 pages. I also own 6 our of 7 of them. One day…
BUT I love the movies and even saw a few of them on opening night at midnight….so that counts for something, right?
Peggy M says
Lol, love the video! I also haven’t read the series and have been wanting to, but the idea of picking up those big books right now with an almost 3 month old scares me!
Amanda @ Hell-Bent to Read says
MILFs Inc, oh my gosh. Best. Thing. EVER.
I’m so excited that you guys are finally reading HP! I actually may re-read it soon…it’s been YEARS since I finished the series.

minavilly says
Hello, just found your blog through another one that used your book survey. I didn’t read HP when it came out either, so you are not alone! I was 15 when the fourth one came out and the craze kicked into high gear, and I did not go back and read them. I’ve decided that like you, I need to read them now, so I’ve been buying them used when I see them.
