Top Ten Tuesday, as always, is hosted at my other blog — The Broke & the Bookish
This week’s topic: Ten Books I Plan To Read This Winter
It’s a little early to be planning what I’m going to be reading this winter but I’ll do it because god knows I won’t have time to think about it when it gets busy during December.
An Ember in The Ashes by Sabaa Tahir: Ancient Rome type setting + fantasy!!!
The Start Of Me & You by Emery Lord: YOU KNOW MY LOVE FOR EMERY LORD’S DEBUT!! If you don’t, CLICK HERE.
The Law of Loving Others by Kate Axelrod: A 2015 contemporary debut that sounds right up my alley!
The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater: I KNOW I KNOW. Time to catch up! Did you see this giveaway to win the series thus far + a limited edition tarot cards made by MAGGIE herself & my darling friend Carla’s “reading” of the series based on the judgment card?
The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness: I need to read a Patrick Ness book eventually so I’m hoping to start with this one!! (as I type this..it’s 1.99 for kindle).
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor: Another series that people have RAVED about that I must start!
The Last Time We Say Goodbye by Cynthia Hand: I really loved Cynthia Hand’s Unearthly series and I’m excited to see what she does with a contemporary novel!
No Place To Fall by Jaye Robin Brown: I try not to fall into marketing comparisons but it said The Sky Is Everywhere meets This Lullaby and YOU CANNOT TEMPT ME WITH THE JANDY WITHOUT MY HEAD TURNING!
Better Than Perfect by Melissa Kantor: I really liked the two other Melissa Kantor books I’ve read so I’m REALLY looking forward to another contemporary from her!
The Orphan Queen by Jodi Meadows: An amazing sounding FANTASY DUOLOGY. Go read the summary if you haven’t heard of this one. No seriously, go do it.
So tell me…what books are on YOUR to-be-read list for Winter?? What book should be my #1 priority on this list of mine?

Rachel Patrick says
I read the prologue/first chapter of THE LAST TIME WE SAY GOODBYE during YASH and it reminded me of THE IMPOSSIBLE KNIFE OF MEMORY and I want to read it so bad! Ooh, I also need to read THE DREAM THIEVES. And ahh, AN EMBER IN THE ASHES, THE START OF ME AND YOU, and THE ORPHAN QUEEN! Excellent TBR. Also, interested to see what you think of DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE; I didn’t love it, but the writing was very good!
Rachel @ Beauty and the Bookshelf
Jamie says
OOOH I LOVED The Impossible Knife so YAY! I always hear that from even people who didn’t LOVE it..that her writing is amazing!
Alysia says
Excited for Emery Lord’s next book!! I hear sooo many good things and I’m just getting so anxious for it so that’s my obvious choice for being your first priority!! Also I need to start the Raven Cycle eventually, so many seem to like that series and I haven’t even attempted them yet!
Jamie says
I’m pretty sure that IS going to be my first choice bc I don’t know that I can wait any longer!!
Lillian @ Mom With a Reading Problem says
I put off reading Daughter of Smoke & Bone for the longest, but I got it a couple of weeks ago at the library….I’m really not sure why I ever put it off now! I devoured it, book two and I’m about a third of the way through the last one now. LOL! It’s not at all like I thought it was (angel vs. demon) and all about world-building. The author knows how to weave the story together and create this amazing world….sorry! I’ll quit fangirling now 😉
Jamie says
Oh this is good to hear!!!! YAY!! I’m hoping I will feel the same way!
Bonnie @ A Backwards Story says
I almost put EMBER IN THE ASHES on my list, but I think I’m going to be finished before winter, since I’ve already started it, SO…! Ahh, Emery’s new book is on my list, too! I keep wanting to pick it up !! I also want to get to Cynthia Hand’s ARC, and I am SO EAGER for THE ORPHAN QUEEN!!!
Jamie says
So many good books this winter!!!
Chrissi Reads says
I’m also really excited to see what Cynthia Hand does with a contemporary novel. I can’t wait to read Emery Lord’s new book too. Open Road Summer was so cute! Great list as always, Jamie! 🙂
Jamie says
I’ve only heard good thigns from the people who have read Emery’s new one so I’m optimistic!!
La La in the Library says
I have so much on my winter to be read list, including two or three highly anticipated from LAST YEAR, lol. I moaned when saw Smoke and Bone on your list because I had forgotten that I wanted to read that trilogy, too!
Jamie says
SO MANY SERIES I FEEL THAT WAY ABOUT! I’ll see someone talk about it and I’m like GAH I REALLY WANT TO READ THAT ONE TOO. *looks at list of a bajillion series to read*
Ellis says
AAAAHHHHH THE DREAM THIEVES AND DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE. These are SUCH GOOD CHOICES. I’m really curious to see what you’ll think about them and obviously I hope you’ll love them. I had the exact same reasoning with the new Cynthia Hand because the Unearthly series is just fantastic, but I’m also a little scared because TLWSG is a lot more serious than the fluff paradise that was Unearthly, but I’m still excited. Again, fantastic choices and I hope you enjoy each and every one of them!
Jamie says
YES it does sound so much more series than Unearthly series. And EEEE I am hoping I will continue to love Raven Cycle and enjoy Daughter of Smoke and Bone because OMG THEY ARE SO BELOVED!!
Rebecca @ The Library Canary says
Oooh, An Ember in the Ashes!! *grabby hands* I can’t wait for that book to come out! I didn’t put it on my list, but I also really want to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I put it on my Christmas list so hopefully I get the whole series and I can binge it sometime this winter. 🙂
Jamie says
I almost put it on my Secret Santa list but I was like EH I will just library it for now! I HOPE I LOVE IT SO I CAN BUY IT!
Shannon says
You are getting ready to start some amazing series this winter! I’ve seen Better than Perfect and No Place to Fall on another winter reading list, and I figure two amazing book bloggers can’t be wrong, so they’ve moved up on my TBR! But first, I absolutely must read Anna and the French Kiss. (I know! *hides face in shame* How did I miss this one?!) I recently finished My True Love Gave to Me and LOVED Stephanie Perkins’s story.
Jamie says
AHHHH I loved Stephanie’s story in that anthology. OMG. I wanted a whole story. It was so cuuuuuute. I hope you love Anna!!!!
Jennifer aka YA Book Nerd says
Great list! So looking forward to reading THE START OF ME AND YOU! I also loved Open Road Summer
Heidi @ YA Bibliophile says
Gah!! The Knife of Never Letting Go is excellent on audiobook! Also, The Dream Thieves! Daughter of Smoke & Bone!!!! So many of my favorites!! I’m also really excited for An Ember in the Ashes.
Michelle says
Hi, Jamie! So, let’s see…An Ember in the Ashes, The Last Time We Say Goodbye and The Orphan Queen should have been on my list, but I could only choose ten for this. Winter is long and I’m sure we’ll be snowed in soon (probably tomorrow, lol), so it won’t take long to get through our tbr lists. I always read more in the winter. Enjoy your books and have a nice Thanksgiving!

Yessss, a little overlap there with Emery’s second book and NO PLACE TO FALL – so excited for both!
Betty says
Oh snap on that Cynthia Hand book! I didn’t know about this…. I call borrowing it next!
Nadia says
READ THE DREAM THIEVES FIRST!!
In my Winter TBR: Blue Lily Lily Blue.
Others I’m considering: The Body Electric, Clan, Percy Jackson (3,4,5).
Re-reads I want to do: This is Not a Test, Deathless, Raven Cycle (1,2).
Emma @ Miss Print says
omg I am always shocked and saddened when I find people not caught up on The Raven Cycle! I didn’t know Cynthia Hand had a contemporary coming out–that may have to make its way onto my own to read list. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
Jacque says
I really enjoyed the Dream Thieves!! I actually listed the next book in the series on my Top Ten list this week. You have a few other books that are on my TBR list, but I probably will not get to them this winter.
I hope you have a fabulous winter filled with great books.

Jasprit says
The Start of Me and You sounds absolutely amazing Jamie! I still need to read a book by Lord, but I have a feeling that this book will just be wonderful! I’m thrilled to see Daughter of Smoke and Bone of your list too, I wasn’t really a fantasy fan when I read this book, but this book blew me away! Happy reading! 🙂
Rissi says
Yay for The Start of Me and You. That one sounds darling – and oh, my! I SO want to read ‘Orphan Queen.’ It looks fierce!
Nicole Hewitt says
Glad to see that I’m not the only one who hasn’t read 4, 5 & 6! Everyone raves about them, and I feel so behind the times!
Jessica@Lovin' Los Libros says
Great list Jamie! I’m so excited to get to The Start of Me and You! I love Emery’s books! I’m also excited for Cynthia’s, Jodi’s, and Jaye’s!
Kim says
Girrrrrl you need to get yourself on that Dream Thieves reading. Asap. Come cry with the rest of us.
Ember in the Ashes and the Orphan Queen are like pretty much the top of my 2015 tbr. Well, besides, already started series! I’ve heard really great things so far!
Kayla @ The Thousand Lives says
An Ember in the Ashes, The Start of Me and You, and The Last Time We Say Goodbye are three of the books I’m really looking forward to in 2015! I hope they’re fabulous 😀
Dan Polley says
I just started reading “Daughter of Smoke & Bone” this week. It’s definitely a series I am going to continue.
I’ve been looking forward to starting the “Magicians” series by Lev Grossman.
Kimberly @ Turning the Pages says
I hope you love Daughter of Smoke and Bone, I have the third book coming up on my TBR pile and can’t wait to get to it. I also have The Orphan Queen on my TBR list and it looks AMAZING!
Here’s my TTT post
T @ Bookpiles&Blanketforts says
Ugh… all of these series are ones I’ve been meaning to start too! I will get to them eventually (I hope). I can’t wait to hear your thoughts. Maybe 2015 will be the year of the series for me. My TTT: http://bookpilesandblanketforts.blogspot.ca/2014/11/top-ten-tuesday-my-winter-tbr.html
Rachel @ A Perfection Called Books says
Great choices, Jamie!! I plan on reading Orphan Queen too 🙂 How is The Raven Boys? I’m anxious to read that one as well. An Ember in the Ashes looks so good, I’m definitely starting that one soon too. The Start of You and Me looks adorable and fluffy. I’ll read anything Hand writes, I’m sure The Last Time We Say Goodbye will be fantastic. Enjoy your books and oh look, it’s snowing!! 🙂
Ciara @ Ciara Reads Books says
I haven’t read a Patrick Ness book yet either but I plan to amend that at some stage, with either the Chaos Walking trilogy or More than This! I love the US cover for Daughter of Smoke & Bone- the UK edition just dulls in comparison! I’m hoping to read the final book in the DOSAB series this winter!
Danielle @ Love at First Page says
I just binge read The Raven Boys books and it was soooo worth it. Books 2 an 3 were my favorite, so I say go for it soon! 🙂 I hope to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone and The Start of Me and You soon too! Happy reading, friend. 🙂
Alexa says
You have to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone. That book is just pure awesome and it is even better if you listen to it on audio. The narrator is amazing and really brings life to the world and the characters.
Looks like you have a great list set up so I hope you enjoy all of those!
Angie says
I haven’t read any of the books on your TBR, but 4,5,6 are books that I want to read eventually! Good luck on your list!! =)
Ashley @The Quiet Concert says
I am so excited to read Orphan Queen, I got a copy on EW and started reading it on the plane back from our Honeymoon and BOOM… it was just a sampler. I was crushed! Enjoy your winter readings 🙂
Alexa S. says
The Start of Me and You made me cry while I was reading it. Once again, Emery manages to write an incredibly moving story – and one with such a strong friendship aspect to it too! Also, you can’t go wrong with The Dream Thieves (because Ronan is my favorite and this is his time to shine), Daughter of Smoke and Bone (the writing in this one is GORGEOUS) and The Orphan Queen (I’m a Jodi Meadows fangirl for real, and this book was so dang awesome).
I’m definitely looking forward to reading Better Than Perfect & The Last Time We Say Goodbye. Both are contemporaries that sound really great, and I can’t wait to read them!
